How Much are the NCEA Fees? Introduction - 2007 Curriculum
The curriculum we offer is responsive to student demand but also delivers the essential learning and skill areas of the New Zealand curriculum. In the junior school, students get a taste of all areas of the curriculum so that they receive a well balanced, broad education and can make well informed choices as they move through to senior levels. Year Nine
All students study English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, PE and Health. They can choose either a language (Maori or French) or Enrichment which consists of a different topic each term. For example: Electronics, Super Science, Adventure Skills and Enterprise Studies. Year nine students study two of the three arts areas (Art, Music or Drama) and in year 10 study the third area. One of these arts can be taken as an extension. Students study each of the following technologies for two terms each: Hard Materials, Soft Materials, Food and Information and Communication Technology. Students with identified literacy and numeracy needs will have the opportunity to receive assistance through a learning enrichment class. Year Ten
All students study English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, PE and Health. They study an art area not already covered in year nine and then another art for extension in the second half of the year. Students have a choice of two Technological areas from Hard Materials, Fabric, Food, Graphics, Information and Communication technology and Technology Challenges. In addition, students can choose from a language (French or Maori), Future Problem Solving or Enrichment Studies (one term each of Careers, Community Issues, Horticulture and Maori Art). Year Eleven
All year eleven students study English or Maori, Mathematics, a Science and three other subjects. For NCEA level 1, they need to achieve 80 level 1 credits, which must include 8 in English and 8 in Maths. Year Twelve
Students study English or Maori and five other subjects which can lead to level 2 NCEA credits and University Entrance. They need 60 credits at level 2 and 20 from another level. Students considering the possibility of going to university in the future need to ensure that they have 8 level 2 credits in English (4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits in writing) and 14 credits in Maths at level 1 or higher. Year Thirteen
Students need 80 credits with 60 credits at level 3 for a level 3 NCEA qualification. English is no longer compulsory and there is a wide selection of courses and modules available to choose from across various levels.
