Fabric and Food Technology
All technological areas are taught at school and students can choose both academic and vocational pathways. Some highlights of our courses are listed below:
- Automotive Engineering
- Introduction to Trades
- Electronics Materials Technology
- Technology Challenges
- Graphics
- Food Technology
- Cooking & Food Preparation
- Food for Flatting
- Fabrics Technology
- Digital Technology (ICT)
- Computer Science
Materials Technology (Fabric)
Students are presented with a real issue and are required to solve the issue by identifying a need or opportunity for a product (garment, item). They must then conduct research and develop a solution through to a final product.
Students aim to build confidence, develop creativity and learn new textile skills and techniques via practical work. They also learn to plan their time and resources, evaluate, test out, design, and think critically and creatively through their book work.
At senior levels students address client based issues identified by the students. Interview and research skills will be used to develop a brief that meets the client's needs. Students will design and create a product after analysing information they have researched so informed decisions can be made and applied to their outcome.
Digital Technologies
The new Digital Technologies curriculum focuses on applying and knowing about computer science, electronic and digital applications and encompasses our current ICT and Computer Studies programmes.
In Digital Technology (ICT) students learn about technology as a process and work with a client and other key stakeholders to create authentic outcomes for real issues.
In Computer Science students learn more about the workings of a computer, networks and programming.
Materials Technology (Wood)
The Year 10 Materials Technology students recently completed their first furniture project. A number of skills and processes were used to produce a side table. Both Leon Falwasser and Edee Harris scored Excellence with their efforts. The pupils are now working on a Go-Kart project which see teams design a make a vehicle that will be raced.
The senior Carpentry students have recently completed their first project. Using almost entirely hand tools the pupils have constructed a Saw Horse which uses complex joint and angles. Ray Franklin and Alyssa Inwood both scored highly with their work. The second project is now underway and all the students are busy.
Electronics
Ben Rutherford designed and made his own Solenoid motor.
