Scott has been Principal at Motueka High School since October 2009. Born and educated in Nelson, his most recent role was as Deputy Principal at Ashburton College in Mid-Canterbury. Scott places a strong emphasis on the importance of relationships within a school environment and is impressed with the sense of community at Motueka High School. He sees a great pride in the students and is enjoying meeting parents and caregivers as he settles into his new role. While his spare time is minimal these days, Scott enjoys being in the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and being on the "sidelines" at school sports, musical and cultural events.

Deputy Principal
Paul is one of the Deputy Principals. He has responsibility for day to day school organisation, School Calendar, Discipline, Detention System, Passes, Emergency Procedures, Prize Giving, NZQA Liaisons for NCEA, Exams (internal & external), Parent Evenings, Duty System and Marks Analysis. Paul also teaches a Mathematics class.
Stacey has recently joined us from Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu - The Correspondence School.
Dean
In his role as Head of Transition, Tony is the Year 13 Dean, teaches Careers, is the E4E Co-ordinator, Correspondence Co-ordinator and STAR Co-ordinator. Tony is also involved with our High Performance Athletes.
Beccy is the Year 10 Dean. Beccy has been teaching at Motueka High School since 2007. She grew up in Motueka and decided to move back in 2007 after living overseas and in Christchurch. Beccy is a member of the Physical Education Department and teaches Health, Physical Education, and Sport and Recreation. She is also the Teacher in Charge of Netball and facilities SADD.
Kate has been teaching at Motueka High School since 2006. She was born in Nelson but grew up in Wellington. In 2004 she decided to move back to the region after studying at Waikato University. This year she teaches Junior Health and Physical Education along with Year 11 Sport and Recreation. In previous years Kate has also taught Year 11 Health and Physical Education and Year 12 Sport and Recreation. She is passionate about improving health and wellbeing of students at school and is involved with the Community Health Action Group as a staff liaison.
Sue Thorp has been on the staff at Motueka High School for a number of years teaching Sculpture, Printmaking and Painting at a senior level and Nga Toi (Maori Arts) and a comprehensive Art curriculum at a junior level. She is a practising artist, with Printmaking and Painting in mixed media as her passion, and exhibits at least once a year locally. Sue involves herself in extra-curricular activities - Sailing Team manager, Production back stage manager, Talent Quest participant and back stage manager - to build relationships with students and share the enthusiasm they have for such activities. All of Sue's 3 children have been educated at Motueka High School with great success, and she is currently Dean of Y11.

Karen is the Year 12 Dean. Karen rejoined the staff late in 2006, having been a long term reliever in 2003. She grew up in Nelson and decided to move back to the region in 2003 to be closer to extended family and enjoy better weather. She currently teaches Digital Technology and Taha Maori. In the community she is involved with Te Rourou Kura (Secondary Schools Kapa Haka) and Te Kahui Matauranga (Maori Education Committee).
Luke is the Year 9 Dean. He also teaches Computer Studies and Media Studies.
Head of Department
Todd has been at Motueka High School since 2000, after spending five years teaching at the Kapiti Coast. He is originally from Christchurch and spent most of his summer holidays in the Nelson region. Todd is Head of Physical Education and has responsibility for Professional Development programmes for teachers. He is also the Relief Coordinator and House Coordinator.

Peter is Head of the Technology Department, a diverse group that includes Food, Fabric, ICT and Workshop. Peter teaches Automative, Graphics, Engineering and Metalwork.
Graeme is the Head of the Social Science Department and teaches Social Studies, Geography and Tourism. Other areas in the Department include History and Community Issues.
Kane joined the Art Department in 2009 and teaches Art and Photography. Other areas within the Department include Scultpure and Printmaking.
Faith has lived in the Motueka area since 2000 and she really enjoys the outdoor recreational opportunities this area has to offer, especially cycling and kayaking. She is currently the HOD of Maths and this year is teaching Y9, Y10 and two Y11s. Her classroom focus in 2011 is to embed the new Mathematics Standards at Level 1 of NCEA. Over the last few years, Faith has relished the opportunity of undertaking post-graduate study in Mathematics Education with funding support from the Ministry of Education. She was fortunate enough to closely work with Professor Glenda Anthony who is internationally known for her expertise on effective teaching of secondary school mathematics.
Lorraine is situated at Te Whare Pora - The House.
Hilary joined the staff in 2011 and is the Head of Music.
Te Marunui joined us in 2010 after teaching in Ashburton. His specialty is teaching Te Reo Maori from years 9-13. He also teaches woodwork, metalwork and graphics in the technology department. Other duties include being responsible for the pastoral needs of Maori students and liaison with their whanau.
Jan co-ordinates the Learner Support Department which includes Special Needs, Alternative Education, Special Assessment Conditions, Immigrant Students, Gifted and Talented students and the Community Volunteers at Motueka High School programme. She also writes reading and literacy resources for Learning Media Ltd and the Rainbow Reading programme. These resources are distributed to schools in New Zealand and the South Pacific.
Nick teaches Physics at Levels 2-4 and is the ICT Co-ordinator. He holds degrees in Physics and Instrumentation from Brunel University, UK and in Astrophysics from Queen Mary and Westfield College, UK. Nick taught for 3 years each at Southfield Community College and St Marylebone School, both in London. He came to New Zealand late in 2004 from Saltus Grammar School in Bermuda where he also taught for 3 years. Nick believes he has settled in the most beautiful place in the world and he intends to bring up his two boys here. He is also currently the contact person for squash activities.

Jill is a returnee in 2002 after having left at the end of 1986 to teach in Auckland. Jill is HOD English, teaching English to all year levels. Extra-curricular interests include waka ama, softball and basketball.

Barbara teaches in the Mathematics Department.
Jill teaches SPEC Programme, Gateway and Careers.
Sharon has been teaching Years 11, 12 and 13 History at Motueka High School for the past nine years and considers herself fortunate to teach a subject which she really enjoys, and to be in a school which she holds in high regard. She started her teaching career at Waimea College some years ago, took time out to raise four children (all of whom attended Motueka High School). She also worked part-time as Coordinator for Adult Literacy and as a tutor in Written and Oral Communication Skills at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. In addition to teaching History, Sharon teaches Future Problem Solving and is the Teacher in Charge of the School Library.
Amy is currently on maternity leave. Amy has been teaching at Motueka High School since 2007. She grew up in Nelson and decided in 2006 to move back to the region after living in Wellington and overseas. She teachers Science and Biology. She is passionate about improving the school and community environment and facilates the Motueka Environmental Conservation Association (MECA), which is a student run group and has about 20 members and is growing. During winter she coaches the Motueka High School girls 1st XI Hockey Team and currently plays for Huia Womens.
Sarah coordinates the programmes of those students who have some special needs but who attend mainstream classes. She also teaches English and ESOL.
Anthea has been teaching at Motueka High School since 1999. Her teaching subjects are Science, Horticulture and Biology. Anthea enjoys the small size of Motueka High School and values the opportunities that gives her to get to know most of the students. Spending time with her family is her most important out of school activity.
Michele speaks French and German and runs French classes for Years 9 to 13, as well as being available to help those students studying German or other languages by correspondence. Michele helps out in netball by organising the Year 10 team to go to Tournament and is the teacher in charge of the school's Amnesty group.
Allison has been teaching at Motueka High School since 2007. She is the Teacher in charge at Te Whare Pukeone - The Base - and workds with ORRS funded students. Allison also provides guidance and professional development opportunities for Teacher Aides.
Robynne teaches Drama in the school from Year 9 through to Year 13.
Joachim is a member of the Technology Department and teaches Electronics, Engineering, Graphics and Furniture Making. He is also involved with the Robotics group.
Rebekah was born in the Canterbury region and graduated with a BSc from the University of Canterbury majoring in both psychology and geography. From there she attended the NZ Gruaduate School of Education and her lifelong dream of teaching became a reality. After working in Canterbury, she moved to Motueka for a change of scene and gain new experiences. She enjoys listening to music, reading, tramping, rugby and cooking. Rebekah is passionate about teaching English, Social Studies and Geography.
John is an English teacher, teaching classes ranging from Year 9 to Year 13. Another role he fills is as a Duty Team Leader, which means he has responsibility to oversee discipline outside the classroom, and also a part in ensuring the overall discipline system works well. John is s member of the Positive Behaviour for Learning Team, and is also a member of the ICT Committee.
James is a member of the Mathematics Department.
Muriel has lived in the Motueka district since 1978 and both her daughters attended Motueka High School. She has worked in education from early childhood to adult level including three years VSA in Cambodia. She likes helping the Gateway students find a pathway to follow and gain learning in. Also very satisfying is to meet students later in their lives and hear how their Gateway experience has taken them further. The Gateway programme is very grateful to all the employers who so willing give Motueka High students these work experience opportunities.
Greg teachers in the Outdoor Education department.

Andrea has previously taught at Motueka High School in 2006, 2008-2010. This year she teaches part-time in the Physical Education Department.
Bruce teaches Year 9 Social Studies and Community Issues as part of the Year 10 Enrichment Programme.
Celeste was enticed to move to Motueka because of the beautiful environment and small community. She started at Motueka High School as a first year teacher in 2009. She teaches Soft Materials Technology (Fabric) and a small amount of Food Technology. During winter she coaches the Motueka High School Senior Reserve Netball team.
Rob teaches Mathematics and Calculus.
Bruce joined the staff of Motueka High School in 1981. His present teaching programme is in Science and Chemistry, but has included Mathematics in the past. The other major task he does is to build the School Timetable for each new year. This is an ongoing task these days, with sometimes major changes occurring every Term. He continues to enjoy the working environment at Motueka High School with a great team of supportive colleagues to work with, and generally friendly motivated students to teach. It is very special to be able to play a small part in developing the leaders of tomorrow.
Bruce was nominated for (out of 1100 nominations) and is one of the Top 30 for the 2011 Warehouse Stationery "Most Inspiring Teacher" awards.
Jake is a member of the Technology Department teaching Graphics, Building and Furniture Making. Jake is also a Duty Team Leader.
Emily joined the staff in 2011 and teaches Dance, Drama and English.
James is the Assistant Head of Department Technology and teaches senior Food Technology and junior Social Studies. He worked as a chef for 12 years both in New Zealand and in London before returning to New Zealand and completing a History degree. James moved to Motueka having enjoyed cycle touring through the area previously. He enjoys reading as well as many different outdoor pursuits, especially tramping.
Justin joined the staff in 2009 and teaches Science.
Lorna teaches Accounting and Money part-time and facilitates the Senior Ball.
Sandy is an English teacher teaching years 9 to 12, Bus Controller (responsible for 300 students on 8 bus routes), received a National Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001 and has had 30 years teaching experience. She has previously taught at Ashburton College, Burnside High School in Christchurch, Shirley Boys High School also in Christchurch, St Matthews College for Girls in Masterton (PR2 Head of English, Social Studies & History) and Kuranui College in Greytown.
Administrative Staff
As Science Technician, Jane supports the Science Department in their work by preparing equipment and chemicals for lessons. She has a role in ensuring safe practice in the science laboratories.

Marilyn is the Executive Officer's Assistant.
Paula is Scott Haines' Executive Assistant. She moved to Motueka from Auckland in July 2010 and joined our staff at the beginning of 2011. Paula has an extensive history in Executive Assistant roles.
Carol is the Truancy Officer and she does an awesome job!

Adrienne is the Sports Co-ordinator and is employed for 25 hours per week. Adrienne offers support to individual sports codes, sports administration and budget, heads the Student sports committee, a member of the Staff sports committee, organises the inter-school fixtures and promotes sport in general for ALL student participation.
Marian joined the staff at Motueka High School in 2010 and is working as a Teacher Aide.

Morris is part of the team at Te Whare Pukeone.

Jean is part of the team by Te Whare Pukeone.

Alison is the Office Receptionist. She is also part of the team keeping a check on student absences.

Anne joined the staff in 2009 and is the school librarian.

Rose Scheib is our new Homestay Manager for overseas students. Rose is also a homestay parent and has hosted international students prior to taking on this role.

Vanessa is part of the team working at Te Whare Pukeone.

Sheree is Receptionist at the Public Counter and does a wide range of duties in the office and for teachers.

Trish works as the Arts Department Coordinator and also provides Teacher Aide support.
In her work, Judy meets and/or corresponds with recruiting agencies from around the world to bring fee-payment international students to Motueka High School. As International Director she confirms that all immigration, insurance and pre-arrival conditions are met. Once the students are here, Judy assists in their pastoral care, working with Deans and teachers on relevant school matters. She also helps answer their many questions, supports them in their travel plans and sporting activities and runs special end of the year programs for them. Frequent meetings with the Homestay Co-ordinator are held.

Ellie is responsible for recruitment of homestay families and the placement of international students with those homestay families.

Helen is the School Secretary and is responsible for all student records. She is also involved in NCEA data input and other admin duties.
Mary has a varied role as Executive Officer. Her responsibility for the school's finances covers everything from budgeting through to fundraising; the Property portfolio requires management of the buildings and grounds; and in between times there is payroll to keep on track. And lest she forget what the job's about, Mary loves her involvement with students through the Student Council.
