Term 3 10-14 August 2026 is Aotearoa School Libraries Week

MHS Book Week theme is power... fellowship too. Can you guess the book?

Did you know  on this day in 25 May  1978...

"Police and army personnel removed 222 people from Bastion Point, above Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour, ending an occupation that had lasted 506 days. Local iwi Ngāti Whātua were protesting against the loss of land in the Ōrākei block, which had once been declared ‘absolutely inalienable"..

Have you been watching the world news? How do you tell what is misinformation or factual?

Unicef has some great tips for getting to the real information. Check their tips here

See here for how to spot fake videos -AI generated- of the Iran War and BBC commenting on disinformation

Do you read across multiple news sources?

Try using a news aggregator- check for bias.

What happens to your facts across for example these three news outlets?

  • Al Jazeera: Offers strong, in-depth coverage of the Global South and Middle East, often presenting a different viewpoint than Western media. It is noted for high-quality journalism, though sometimes criticized for its ties to the Qatari government.
  • The Guardian: A British newspaper with a centre-left, liberal perspective known for in-depth investigative reporting and international, environmental, and social coverage.
  • The Times/NYT: Represents a more traditional, establishment, or center-right (The Times) to center (NYT) perspective, often setting the agenda for mainstream Western coverage.
