Adventure Racing

The Adventure Racing Team consists of a Junior and a Senior squad.

The Junior squad is open to all Year 9 & 10 students and runs during Term 3.

The Senior squad is open to Year 11-13 students and trains in Term 1 and 3.

Please read the Hillary Challenge and Get 2 Go buttons for more information.

Prospective students, as well as having a positive can-do attitude, need to put time into their fitness which at a minimum involves 2 runs and 1 bike ride a week.

To be a member of the senior squad you must be in Years 11, 12 or 13.

The Senior squad initially trains in Term 1 in preparation for the 6-hour South Island Hillary Challenge, which is usually held right at the start of Term 2.

Every student taking part in the training will be able to compete, but a ‘top’-team will be selected during the training phase. A team placing in the top 4 of the South Island will go on to compete at the Hillary Challenge National Final, at Tongariro, in October.  If placed, the top team will start training for this in Term 3.

The cost for both junior and senior training is around $60. If competing in events, extra costs may be associated, but the majority of these are covered by fund-raising. Cost should never stand in the way of a student's desire to participate.
